Week 5
It was another busy and enjoyable week across the language centres, with learners continuing to benefit from a wide range of valuable opportunities to use Welsh in practical, creative and engaging contexts. Their confidence in speaking, listening and working together continues to develop, and they are becoming increasingly willing to use Welsh in their everyday interactions.
At the language centre based at Ysgol Eifionydd, Porthmadog, learners welcomed a special visitor, Mali the dog. They greatly enjoyed welcoming her to the centre and took part in activities describing her appearance and character. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to develop descriptive vocabulary and speaking skills, as well as discuss the importance of caring for animals and showing kindness towards them.
Learners at Dolgellau language centre had fun learning simple commands and instructional language through yoga sessions and dough-making activities. These activities gave them valuable opportunities to listen to instructions, respond appropriately and use Welsh in a practical and enjoyable way.
Learners at Tywyn language centre developed their speaking skills by learning how to describe unusual animals and creating imaginary animals of their own. While presenting their creations to their peers, they used a wide range of adjectives and language patterns to describe their appearance and special features. The activity was a great opportunity to expand vocabulary, encourage creativity and build confidence in using Welsh.
At the language centre based at Ysgol Tryfan, Bangor, learners had the opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills by creating a podcast after reading the story The Lost Crocodile. While discussing the characters and events in the story, they used their own ideas to plan and record the podcast. The activity provided an excellent opportunity to collaborate, be creative and use Welsh in a meaningful way, helping to build confidence in communicating and sharing opinions with others.
Learners also spent time remembering Aberfan this week as the community marked 60 years since the tragedy. Through age-appropriate activities and discussions, they had the opportunity to learn about the event and reflect on the importance of community, kindness and showing respect to others.
